The King and Queen of the Santa Clarita Master Chorale have issued a royal proclamation, bidding one and all to come to the third annual “Midwinter Madrigal Feast.”  Featuring a royal 16th century-style banquet sponsored by Macaroni Grill and wine sponsored by the The Loose Goose, there will also be a comical play, merry music by the King’s court and a silent auction.

According to Sherry Klahs, CEO of the Chorale’s board of directors, the midwinter event is an opportunity for the community to show its support for fine arts right here in Santa Clarita.  “For nearly nine years, the non-profit Master Chorale has provided Santa Clarita with the finest in choral music,” says Klahs.  “We dearly love Santa Clarita and hope the community can show their love for us as well.  This is our main fund-raiser for the choral season, and we’re hoping all Santa Clarita patrons of the fine arts will support us.  Plus, it promises to be a very entertaining evening

The Armed Man:  A Mass for Peace

Two Performances

Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 4:00 & 7:00 p.m.
Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center

    at College of the Canyons

26455 Rockwell Canyon Road
Santa Clarita, CA 91355

Free pre-concert lecture at 6:00 p.m. by Artistic Director Allan Robert Petker

A haunting and stirring work, “The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace” begins with a cryptic warning of danger and moves into calls for prayer – in Arabic from a Moslem muezzin, in Latin from the Catholic Mass, and in English from Rudyard Kipling.  The work tells four remembrances of war from ancient India to modern Japan, and reaches across generations and cultures in its final call to a lasting peace where “all tears shall be wiped away and there shall be no more death.”

In addition to professional instrumentalists, the Chorale will be joined by choirs from College of the Canyons and three local high schools (Valencia, Canyon and West Ranch) to perform this multi-cultural work which has already become a sensation in Europe.
