Brahms and Barber

Called “the people’s requiem,” this masterpiece of deep solace by Johannes Brahms headlines The Santa Clarita Master Chorale’s March concert. Writing from perhaps his own deep grief, Ein Deutsches Requiem focuses on the living left behind, a powerful musical comfort. Also on the bill, from 20th century American composer Samuel Barber, the Chorale presents Agnus Dei, based on the Adagio for Strings; orchestral Intermezzo from Act II of Barber's opera, Vanessa and 2 songs from Four Orchestral Songs, Op. 13, for orchestra and solo voice: Sure on this Shining Night and Nocturne.

Let Music Fill the Air

Come delight in the human voice -- the “first” instrument - as the Chorale presents songs about “singing.”  From choral darling Eric Whitacre to the entertaining traditions of Ward Swingle and the inspiration of Mormon Tabernacle Choir Director and composer Mack Wilberg, the program features music about soft nights, laughter and childhood; and our hopes and dreams and faith.  The Chorale also welcomes back the Santa Clarita Children’s Honor Choir to present “Mass of the Children” by beloved songwriter John Rutter.
