Big screen,
small screen -- all of your holiday favorites are here! From "White Christmas"
to Rudolph and Frosty, the Santa Clarita Master Chorale will offer seasonal
favorites from all musical traditions, featuring selections from "Messiah" by
Handel and a world premiere: "Magnificat" from California composer Kevin
Memley. The Santa Clarita Children’s Honor Choir will again join us to help
celebrate the holidays.
Called “the people’s requiem,” this masterpiece of deep solace by Johannes
Brahms headlines The Santa Clarita Master Chorale’s March concert. Writing from
perhaps his own deep grief, Ein Deutsches Requiem focuses on the living left
behind, a powerful musical comfort. Also on the bill, from 20th century American
composer Samuel Barber, the Chorale presents Agnus Dei, based on the Adagio for
Strings; orchestral Intermezzo from Act II of Barber's opera, Vanessa and 2
songs from Four Orchestral Songs, Op. 13, for orchestra and solo voice: Sure on
this Shining Night and Nocturne.
Come delight in the human voice - the "first" instrument - as the Chorale presents songs about "singing." From the romantic Vocalise by Rachmaninoff to Sweet Charity's Rhythm of Life and the inspirational Jubilant Song of Dello Joio, the program features songs about soft nights, laughter and the joy of living. The Chorale also welcomes back the Santa Clarita Children's Honor Choir to join them in presenting Mass of the Children by beloved songwriter John Rutter.
The Santa Clarita Master Chorale would not be as successful as it is without the tireless efforts of its volunteer base. Whether you would like to help out for a few hours on a bulk mailing or take on a major function within publicity or fund-raising, there’s plenty from which to choose.
