Auditions

High School Internship Program

1.     Applicants must have outstanding musical ability as assessed by the student’s high school music teacher, a Letter of Recommendation from their Choral Instructor, and parental permission to participate in the program.

2.     Limited to High School Seniors; Juniors permitted by special permission from their instructor

3.     Acceptance through audition (see above process)

4.     Weekly rehearsals - Mondays - 7:00 - 9:30 pm at the Valencia United Methodist Church, 25718 McBean Pkwy, Valencia (a few may go to 10 pm)

5.     Three concert performances: December, March, and June.

6.     Messiah Sing-Along optional extra, in December.

7.     No more than two absences per concert trimester

8.     Volunteer support through fundraiser staffing, community benefit performances, concert set up/tear down tasks, etc.

Dawn Klein College Internship Program

Our College Internship Program has been funded by a generous donation in memory of long-time patron Dawn Klein.

The SCMC is able to pay college interns for each rehearsal and performance. We are currently looking for tenors and basses.  In the past we have enjoyed interns from USC, CSUN, COC, CalArts, Cal-Lutheran and The Master’s University.

You agree to attend and to use your best efforts at weekly rehearsals and three performances per year as detailed in the yearly calendar provided to Chorale members. You must perform in the concert to be paid for rehearsals.

You are responsible for obtaining your own concert attire and concert folder.  All music will be provided by the Chorale.

Interested in singing with us? We are always interested in recruiting new members. Basses and tenors are especially encouraged to audition. Auditions for our 2026-27 music season will be September 19, 2026 at Valencia United Methodist Church: 25718 McBean Pkwy, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.

Audition Requirements: 

Auditions consist of some vocalizing and a solo of your choice. Appropriate choices would be a classical piece, vocal art song e.g. Italian Aria, German lieder or Broadway solo. Auditions include a brief sight-reading piece as this skill is an important factor to membership. Please bring three copies of your music. We will provide an accompanist.

Internships - High School students less than 18 years of age are encouraged to contact us about our Intern Program - an exciting opportunity for talented young musicians to sing with the Chorale for an entire season at no cost to the student. We also offer paid internships to eligible College students. See details to left.

General Information:

Rehearsals are held Monday evenings beginning in September from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Valencia United Methodist Church. Attendance at all rehearsals is expected. Attendance at Dress Rehearsals is required. We have three concerts each season, in December, March and June. All performances are at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons.
