Southern California composer Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” is one of the most glorious works now sung throughout the world. The title means “Light Eternal,” and it will launch us into a wonderful holiday program. Along with our Children’s Choirs, the Santa Clarita Master Chorale will present holiday music to lighten your spirits that is both new and heartwarmingly familiar, including our annual carol sing-along.
It’s the 4th annual community Messiah singalong with orchestra and soloists. For the second year in a row we will feature soloists selected from the music department of California State University Northridge. Bring your own score or borrow one at the door.
The Santa Clarita Master Chorale invites you to “leap” into a delightful evening of food, wine, and song at our annual benefit event. Ticket includes appetizers, live music, and no-host bar during a silent auction, followed by a tantalizing meal and dessert served to your table…and of course, Cabernet!
The Romantic era gave us some of the most beautiful music ever written. We will celebrate three magnificent works by Johannes Brahms, his “Nänie,” and “Schicksalslied,” and selections from his delightful “Liebeslieder Waltzes.” We will conclude with Schubert’s Mass in Eb - the fifth of his six great masses. Join us for an evening walking through this romantic field of music.
Celebrate the Magic of Music with the Santa Clarita Children's Choir. Delight in an afternoon of percussive prestidigitation featuring singers from our Amadeus and Mozart groups. Hocus pocus and abracadabra, it will be a magical experience for all ages!
It’s 2020 and we are just beginning to “roar.” We’ve reached back into previous centuries and found some choral gems that resounded in their respective ‘20s. Beginning with Palestrina in 1520 we bring the sounds of such luminaries as Purcell, Pergolesi, Mendelssohn and Beethoven, right into George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Join us for a journey through the thriving ‘20s in lyrics and song.
From the “Yellow Submarine” to the “Brown Eyed Girl” there are a million songs that have colors in their title. We can’t sing them all, but along with our children’s choir we will sing a kaleidoscope of songs that will paint the evening just right. The featured work is “Mass in Blue,” by English composer Will Todd – not just a collaboration, but a coloration of the traditional liturgical words with the hues of contemporary jazz.
“The Creation,” considered by many to be the greatest masterpiece by Franz Joseph Haydn, is a musical illustration of the Biblical account of the beginning of life. We will perform the favorite choruses and solos from this splendid work. John Rutter’s “Requiem” has become one of the most popular settings of this text that honors the passing of life. Performed together with orchestra they offer a musical experience that celebrates the full circle of life.
A Sentimental Journey - A Trip Through the Music of the 1940's
"Pardon me, boys...." yes, this will be the Chatanooga Choochoo! All aboard to celebrate the big bands, and enjoy the vocal sytlings of Frand, Dean, Bing, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count basie, Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong...the list goes on. See you on the A Train!
Messiah Sing-Alongs are more popular than ever! Don't miss out on our third annual Sing-Along. Combine your voice with the voices of the Master Chorale, a full orchestra and four talented soloists on stage while Artistic Director Allan Petker conducts the entire audience for a performance of Handel's most beloved oratorio of all time. Bring your own score or borrow one in the lobby and join the chorus. Hallelujah!
It is the music that unites our spirits at the holiday season. With selections from Handel’s glorious “Judas Maccabeus,” the Master Chorale honors Hanukkah; with Mac Wilberg’s majestic “Tres Cantus Laudendi” with brass and percussion, the chorale proclaims the season; with a flurry of carols, both secular and sacred, the chorale celebrates Christmas. The Master Chorale will bring the spirit of the holidays to full sound with “Christmas at the Movies,” “A Pentatonix Christmas Medley,” an audience carol sing, and heart-warming arrangements by the renowned Shawn Kirschner.
Have your apple pie and eat it too as the Santa Clarita Master Chorale celebrates American music with Carol Barnett’s “Blue Grass Mass.” Joined by our Children and Youth Choirs, we promise to keep your toes tapping with folks songs, sweet spirituals and the Shaker classic, “Simple Gifts.”
A close friend of Mozart and one of Beethoven’s teachers, Franz Josef “Papa” Haydn was back in Vienna for his Harmoniemesse and this popular work from the end of Josef Haydn’s life is painted with every color of the musical rainbow. Also a delight, the Santa Clarita Master Chorale will feature Beethoven’s “A Choral Fantasie,” a moving musical lark and a haunting precursor to his famous Ninth Symphony.
